Full Window with Privacy

In Singapore, which has a very dense population, the houses especially HDB flat are built very close to each other.

Even condo are not spare from it. You might like the full window view and wishing to be able to look out all the way and to the sky. But there might be a building just in front of you which is like 8-10 meters away.

This is the situation for Warm and Cozy’s house and they endure it for almost 5 years with the curtain always up. Then comes one day, both are free and decide to make some changes to it.

And there is what they started to look for the static privacy window film which is often used in the bathroom.

You can buy it from DIY shop for around S$25 which is about 60 x 200m long. Or if you can wait, it is possible to get it from Qoo10, Lazada or Shopee for less than 50%.

If you think you are not professional enough or is a perfectionist, you can look out for handyman from maybe Kaodim to help you source and paste it for you. But it will cost at least S$100.

Eventually Warm decided that he can do it and they went down to DIY shop. two different patterns were chosen, one that is at least 80% and a half strip static window privacy films. 3 rolls of the static film were bought, accordingly to the windows area that need to cover up.

You can follow the instruction at the following link to do it on your own.

Basically, clean the window with water and soap to remove any dust or dirt on it. After which, use clean water and a window wiper to apply some water on the window to provide the static effect.

Assuming you can cut the window film already accordingly to the size of the window. Tips. Try to cut like 1 cm shorter than the length, to provide some allowance for misalignment and a small gap for the bubble to release.

Peel off the protective layer from the window film and apply first to the top left or right corner and adjust accordingly. The tricky part will be while you are pasting the window film, you will need to adjust and remove the bubble at the same time.

As it is not adhesive film, you can peel and adjust until you are satisfied. It is actually quite exciting to play and using the window wiper to push off bubble to the corner and side to make the film flat.

Do give it a try. It might not look perfect but it does give a chance for Warm and Cozy to do something together and also refresh and brighten the house. It definitely make the house more cozy and warm after 5 years hidden behind the curtains.
