As time passes, there will always be wear and tear to our home. Ever since Warm and Cozy had their own home, they had to take care of everything happening in the house. Like changing light bulbs every few months until the LED light bulb becomes common.

However, depends on the supplier of the LED drivers, there is also the possibility of driver failure. As it required some additional works, the previous electrician whom renovated the house, had been engaged to assist in finding a replacement for the specific driver and fix it up.

However, if we cannot always rely on the previous electrician after the one year warranty, and sometimes they will charge high cost for each repair. Cozy did twice to replace the LED driver alone. But as for switches panel, it would still be better to approach a licensed electrician.

For the past week, one of the lighting switches for Warm and Cozy’s bathroom is not working well. This time round Cozy tried on searching online for handyman services and found Kaodim which is an online service marketplace that helps customers to find the right service providers for hire.

Cozy finally try using Kaodim for the first time which she had seen its advertisement and news report a few times for the past two years. Just that there is nothing major for her to engage them or using their cleaning service. Since the house consists of only Warm and Cozy so it was quite easy to do own house cleaning and ironing of clothes etc. which takes out only around 1-2 hours plus per week.

Cozy downloaded and registered on their App and a message popped up, indicating $7 off if you subscribed to their newsletter. Cozy tried to subscribe but did not receive any email to informing about the $7 OFF code. Anyway Cozy found a better promo code from this Saleduck site. which give a $25 off for first time user code (which is valid until 31st Dec 2019). So you will need to check on their website for latest promotion code.

There are different categories to choose from, for example, Lighting Installation, Electrical Works, Handyman Services, Plumber Services, cleaning services etc. For this particular case, electrical work was chosen and details were filled in a questionnaire format which is quite intuitive. The app allows you to upload photos which is a very useful feature, so Cozy uploaded a “two switches panel” image as shown below. Sometimes, it is really difficult to explain in wordings and a picture speaks a thousand words. It will be a waste of time if they brought the wrong component/model and caused a simple job to be delayed. Another feature is that you can indicate the date required to complete the task and also provide alternative date.

Within around 15min, Cozy received the app notification and gotten the first quote. The vendor profile seem to have a good rating of 5 by ~150 reviewers but given a quote of S$80 which seems to be on the high side for a basic two-way switch repair work. Nevertheless, more information was requested to confirm that it includes everything like Transport, Labour and the replacement.

While waiting for the reply, Cozy received another quote and this time it is much cheaper and they stated that it included transport, labor and the switch. Again the profile is checked on and they have registered for 5 years with similar rating except that there are only 34 reviewers.

After much consideration in terms of cost, timing, rating, Cozy decided to choose the latter vendor which has registered with Kaodim for so many years without been blacklisted and also the pricing is more reasonable.

Have arranged for appointment 11-11.30 am, but was told that there is traffic jam along the way. Eventually, two electrician arrived at around 12.15 pm and managed to fix the switch and complete the job within 30min. As for payment, it was cash after completion. It was noted that the vendor can see the discount and so only have paid exactly S$30 instead of S$55 to the electrician.

Afterthought

It is a good concept to gather all these types of services and relevant vendors in one platform. I would still use this type of online service market platform for my future needs.
